Portable Wood Processing

Arrow Transportation operates four Peterson 5710 – 1050 HP grinders across various locations in British Columbia, with primary bases in Fort St. James and Kamloops. These grinders are supported by a fleet of over 20 Arrow trucks, which transport the processed logging slash to customers for energy generation and wood pellet manufacturing. This division processes over 350,000 cubic meters of logs and logging debris annually, equivalent to about 7,000 logging trucks.

By utilizing this fiber instead of the traditional practice of burning, the release of greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 200,000 cars off the road for a year is prevented.

River City Fibre LP

River City Fibre is a limited partnership between Arrow and Simpcw Resources Group, featuring a state-of-the-art stationary electric chipper. As a premier facility of its kind in Western Canada, River City Fibre stands out in the industry for its efficiency and innovation.

This plant plays a crucial role in the supply chain for Kruger, processing approximately 11,000 truckloads of logs annually that are unsuitable for lumber production. These logs are transformed into wood chips, meeting about one-third of Kruger’s fiber requirements and supporting the sustainable production of pulp and paper products.

Utilizing Waste Wood with FESBC and Kruger

1. Mills shut down, hog piles become drastically low

2. Solution proposed through FESBC, Arrow and Kruger

3. Traditionally burnt slash pile biomass chipped and tested

4. Equipment modifications made, additional team member hired

5. Program is successful. Over 10,000 loads delivered to Kruger since 2022

Fort St. James Fibre

Arrow Transportation proudly owns and operates a large stationary electric chipper in Fort St. James, located on the same site as our jointly owned BioNorth Energy business. This facility processes pulp logs from the Fort St. James area, chipping approximately 5,500 truckloads of logs annually that are not suitable for lumber.

Most of this processed fiber is transported to Prince George, where it is utilized in the Canfor Pulp Mill. Any material not suitable for pulp production is used at the adjacent energy plant. Our commitment to sustainable practices ensures that these logs are efficiently converted into valuable resources, supporting the local economy and forest industry.

Interior Log Towing

Our log towing division on Adams Lake is dedicated to managing the booming and towing operations for the Interfor mill. Utilizing a fleet of three tugboats and three smaller boom boats, we handle approximately 500,000 cubic meters of logs annually, which equates to around 9,000 truckloads.

About half of this volume is dumped at the north end of the lake and then towed 42 kilometers to the mill at the south end. This journey takes approximately 30 hours and showcases the ability of our crew and the Arrow Shaman tug.

BioNorth Energy LP

BioNorth Energy is a joint-venture partnership between the Arrow Group of Companies, the Nak’azdli Development Corporation, the economic development arm of the Nak’azdli First Nation and low-carbon infrastructure developer, Nexus PMG.

Recommissioned in 2022, this flagship operation utilizes forest waste biomass to produce clean energy, and employs 30 highly-skilled, full-time employees. This facility is a 40-mega-watt biomass power generation plant.
